Carts are used to house the various consoles that power all equipment used during arthroscopic surgeries (joints), as well as general surgeries (abdomen). This project was a collaboration between an external design consultant, Tekna, and the Stryker Marketing and R&D teams.
The goal was to develop a next generation cart that would house the newest console designs. The primary functional criteria for the cart was to have the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of hospitals, as consoles are continually added or removed to address the transition of applications to cloud based systems, and products such as printers & file management consoles are stored in more central locations.
The adjustability challenge was resolved by adding a simple worm gear into one of the stanchions of the cart. Improving user functionality, a technician at the hospital can easily use a portable tool to grow or shrink the cart as needed.
